Ever wondered where is my base when I am back in Indonesia? Well, I will always be around, depends on the choices of the cities and what side my coin shows. Despite that, starting from January to early February, I'll be in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
Two years ago, I spent my Chinese New Year in Pontianak, and I find it really memorable. There has been no place populated by majority Chinese people in Indonesia, celebrates Chinese New Year like people in Pontianak and Singkawang (about 2 hours drive from Pontianak) do.
All the cakes, lanterns, fireworks, fresh painted houses, red cheongsams and many more. Will upload couple pictures and show you all how does it feel to be in the middle of the fiesta later on in Chinese New Year.
The Town and Its Port
I used to wander around in this town when I was a kid, sitting on the left side of my daddy's car, looking out from the window, staring at the passerby with their own activities and places with their names written on the boards.
There was once when I took a 'Becak' ride to go back home. From far, I saw a huge crane, carrying a big red coloured box and put it on top of the other boxes. I wondered, what was inside those boxes? However, I was only able to stare from the distance, did not know what's inside, and did not dare to get my curiosity answered.
As I grow older, I figured the answer by my own, but the place I once glanced, had left more than one inquiry on my mind. It was amazing I had a chance to step on this place. An old yet a new place for me.
Sometimes, some places would not look as they were before, some might even disappear. It was a luck that this port still stay the same.
Don't hesitate to follow your curiosity and discover places before those places had gone. One day when you are asked about a long lost place, you would be grateful to say, "I've been there."
